KX-T: KXT-7885

I bought a used cordless kxt7885.  The base light goes from red to green
after awhile but when I try to use the phone it starts to beep and then the
battery indicator blinks empty. Same result with all combinations 2 charging
bases and 2 batteries.  Does anyone know how to determine if it is a
battery, charger, or handset issue? I'd try a new battery but they are very
expensive to just experiment with.
