KX-T: ot- toshiba stratagy dk vm hard drive replacement

referral by long time client, company has old dk 280 with 
this msdos 6.22 pc based vm.  345mb maxtor drive sounds like 
a milling machine.  formated fresh 10G maxtor (2gb dos fat 
limit), xcopied old drive to it. (two or three "ignore" for 
read errors) it boots and gets just beyond "loaded program 
:done" then does a "panic: vmb.dat corrupted. Run 
config?(y/n)"  yes, but doesn't fix it.  no install disks, 
doc etc.  i don't see a "repair" option.

it says mailbox 333 offset -62778 not at 98654687.

anyone replaced a drive in one of these, suggestions?

(they are broke, trying to make it thru the recession)

*setup for a tvs 100/200 analog integration would be an 
option esp. for setting dk digital set MW buttons. the dk 
does send follow-on id to the vm analog ports.
